Low: Chapter 4: The Ellis Island bridge Proposal
Thesis:
The proposal of a possible bridge being built is to accommodate more people to visit the island, but different views or opinions are given.
Summary:
Ellis Island is visited by many especially by tourist. Battery Park is usually filled with people, street vendors, and street performers. There are two ways of actually viewing the statue of Liberty which is by riding the Staten Island Ferry or by waiting hours on line to get on a boat to Ellis Island.
The proposal of a bridge is in the talks of being built. People such as the street vendors and maintenance workers of the park see it from a negative aspect because it creates more work for maintenance and less for street vendors which is where these people depend highly on making a living. Some people think it’s a great idea to work over the bridge or ride a bike to get to Ellis Island other think building a bridge or tunnel takes away from the beauty, tradition or originality of getting to Ellis Island to visit the Statue of Liberty.
Personal Reflection:
The closest I’ve ever gotten to the Statue of Liberty was on the Staten Island Ferry. The fact that it’s a great area for couples is romantic. I’ve lived in New York my entire life and have never taken the time to go and when I do I’m pretty sure I’ll enjoy visiting.
